Panasonic Toyota Racing: Jerez Test 17-19 March 2003 - Day 1

Jerez Test 17-19 March 2003 - Day 1

Motorsport
Just back from putting in a strong performance at the Canadian Grand Prix last weekend, the Panasonic Toyota Racing team already kicked off another test session today at the Circuito de Jerez, Spain. Cristiano da Matta was back in charge of the TF103 and of the team's preparations for the upcoming back-to back European and French Grand Prix.

Cristiano da Matta - Car No. 21
Chassis: TF103/03
Best lap time: 1m22.89, 53 laps completed
Working on: Mechanical / aerodynamic set-up as well as tyre testing.

"Our programme for this week basically comprises normal race preparation work such as mechanical set-up, aerodynamic components checks and extensive tyre testing with Michelin. We went well into our task list ahead of the European and French races, although we could not do so many laps today. Running time was interrupted more than one and a half hour after Alexander Wurz' accident, because the tyre barriers had to be completely rebuilt. Most important is to know that Alexander is fine after such a heavy shunt. As for us, we have a lot to do ahead of the next two races as there will be no possibility to test in between, but we are ready to make the most of these three days."

Weather: Sunny and hot. Air temperature: 21-28°C.

Track: Dry at all times. Track temperature: 27-50°C.

Preview:
Cristiano will continue driving in Jerez tomorrow while Ricardo Zonta will complete the second day of the team's concurrent exclusive test session in Paul Ricard.
