Panasonic Toyota Racing

Barcelona Test Day 2

RAIN’S A PAIN IN SPAIN

The weather was the main player as Panasonic Toyota Racing continued its winter test programme at Barcelona today. Rain arrived at the Circuit de Catalunya at 5am and continued, heavily at times, for most of the day. The result washed out much of the running for the teams and Jarno Trulli didn’t even make it out for an installation lap until shortly before midday. The rain relented briefly at lunchtime and most of the cars took advantage to put in some laps. Jarno put in a few runs of work on systems during the breaks in the downpours. But further showers later in the afternoon effectively cut short the work for the day. Jarno will now return to action tomorrow. Toyota will then take advantage of the extension to the test and continue its work on Thursday with Ralf Schumacher scheduled to drive.

Position: 7th
Total laps: 21
Total distance: 97.8km

"All I can say is that it has been a wet day. The weather and conditions have been so bad that it has been pretty much impossible for any of the teams to get any meaningful work achieved. We managed to do some work on systems and electronics in the few laps that we were able to do, but that’s about it. Hopefully we will have a better day tomorrow. The forecast is better so let’s hope we can get some more useful results then."

Gerd Pfeiffer, Test Team Manager

"On a day like this there is very little that you can usefully achieve. We did some work on different engine specs, we looked at some software and did some different mappings for these weather conditions. But that’s about all you can do and it’s the same for everyone. We will look to achieve more over the course of the next two days. Tomorrow there is a risk of showers in the morning but the afternoon should be fine so Jarno s hould get some better running then. The test has now been extended to Thursday when there is again a lower risk of rain."
