Panasonic Toyota Racing driver Timo Glock has helped raise Euro9,117 for the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), benefiting hungry children around the world.
Timo donated his unique German Grand Prix helmet to an online charity auction to raise funds for the WFP's 'Fill the Cup' campaign. The helmet, which shows Timo driving past cheering Toyota fans, was designed by seven-year-old Tom Luca Hoffmann, the winner of a Panasonic 'Kids School' design competition.
Bidding for this unique piece of sporting memorabilia ended on Sunday night, with the winning bid standing at an impressive Euro4,117, which will be donated to the WFP.
In addition, Timo and his personal sponsor Deutsche Post have added a further Euro5,000 donation, ensuring a grand total of Euro9,117 will go towards feeding hungry school children around the world.
Timo said: "I am really pleased to have been able to help raise money for such a good cause. The work done by the World Food Programme's 'Fill the Cup' campaign is extremely important and I wholeheartedly support it."
Even though the online auction has ended, donations of any size can be made to the WFP via www.wfp.org, with just 20 cents enough to give a hungry child a cup of nutritious porridge. "We need as many people as possible to know they can contribute to find a solution to hunger," Timo added.
Timo announced the online auction at the Nürburgring during the German Grand Prix weekend, appearing before the Felix Sturm v Khoren Gevor world championship bout to explain the details.
Felix Sturm, who won that match, was inspired to support the project and a pair of his signed gloves will also be auctioned in aid of the WFP, with details to be announced shortly on www.wfp.org.
The 'Fill the Cup' logo appears on the front wing of the TF019 car thanks to team partner ALJ, which has donated its space to the WFP.
