Toyota to Sell New-generation Avensis in Japan

Eine Mitteilung der Toyota Motor Corporation TMC, Tokio/Japan

Unternehmen
TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION (TMC) announced today that it plans to introduce to its domestic lineup this fall the new-generation Avensis, which is set to start sales in various European countries this spring, following its market launch on March 1 in the United Kingdom. The new Avensis will be on display at the Geneva Motor Show in Switzerland (press days: March 4, 5; public days: March 6-16, local time).

The new Avensis has been developed as a strategic model for the European market, as was its predecessor, which has sold approximately 580,000 units in Europe since its launch in 1997. The exterior design, created by Toyota's European design base ED2 (Toyota Europe Design Development S.A.R.L.), features futuristic and refined styling, while a new-generation package realizes ample cabin space. The newly designed suspension, the result of repeated testing in various European locations, offers superior maneuverability and a comfortable ride. The second generation Avensis will be available in four different models, including a 2.0-liter direct-injection gasoline engine version. All models boast excellent environmental performance. A driver's side SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) knee airbag-part of a total of nine front and side airbags-and an innovative body structure ensure a high level of safety. Structural design took into consideration repair costs, resulting in, among other features, an enlarged front bumper that reduces damage to the hood in the event of a collision.

Like the current model, the new Avensis will be made by Toyota Motor Manufacturing (UK) Ltd.
